Flakes and blisters on the skin: dyshidrotic eczema
Staged disease developmentThe formation of this eczema occurs in most cases in attacks. Within a period of four weeks, the blisters grow, dry and weather. The blisters are initially small and are deeply rooted in the skin. Sometimes the blisters filled with moisture can grow to a few centimeters. The moisture gradually dries out (gives a brownish yellow color), after which it erodes. The remaining flaking skin will then be relatively dry and will feel stiff. In some cases it leads to torn skin. Note that sometimes the condition occurs without blisters (lamellaris sicca). In other words, the flaking can occur spontaneously.
Degree of occurrenceThis condition is common and usually the chronic variant. The complaints can therefore be persistent or come back after a period of rest. If it arises then it appears to occur as an acute attack, after which it certainly takes a month before the skin comes to rest. The inflammation occurs in most cases on the hands, but in some cases it is also on or under the feet. The palms, finger sides or soles of the feet are then affected.
Complaints with dyshidrotic eczemaThe skin blisters cause a lot of inconvenience in the first few weeks. There is an irritating itch that makes the person want to scratch. For accelerated recovery it is always better to stay away from such blisters. Any moisture released from the blisters can further irritate surrounding skin. The skin appears lighter in color after the moisture has evaporated. The hands can sometimes flake and show deep cracks. The dryness also means that the skin is extra sensitive. It can therefore be a reason for the renewed formation of blisters, so that the process starts all over again.
What is it causing? Why one person gets hand eczema and the other does not, is unknown so far. Presumably there is a hypersensitivity to certain substances. For example, perfumed soap, which can cause flake formation immediately. By taking cheap soap this problem can be avoided. In addition, the condition is more likely to occur in people with a tendency for eczema. If you have had constitutional eczema as a child, you can get it sooner. In addition, there are a number of reasons why people suffer from it.
Sensitivity to substancesSoap, oil and other allergy-causing substances can cause severe skin reactions. This may include fragrances, but also certain metal particles or other elements. If the skin comes into contact with it because you rub your hands on it, the skin will respond to it. It is thereby dependent per person for which substance one is actually allergic. As long as the causative agent is not found, the skin will respond to it. If this condition is suspected, an allergy test may be necessary, so that certain substances or products can be avoided. Note that drinking water can also cause a skin reaction. The proportion of lead, nickel or chromium can cause the skin to respond. In that case, water from bottles or spring water is recommended.
PH valueThe skin usually has an acidity of around 5.5 pH. It forms a stable balance for skin bacteria, so that the skin functions normally. For example, soap can cause the acidity to become unbalanced, so that useful bacteria disappear. Unwanted bacteria and / or fungi can prevail. This can be a reason for getting a skin infection. PH neutral soap must be used to wash hands.
TensionsStress and anxiety can be an additional problem. The acid content increases due to increasing tensions in the body. This can have consequences for the development of the disorder. More stress can make the eczema grow faster. Chips and fissures can also cause tension and stress themselves. In other words, a vicious circle whereby the circumstance is maintained.
TherapyDespite the foregoing reasons being able to cause it, in four of the five cases a causer is never identified. The condition is then experimentally treated. It is possible that substances that cause it can be determined so that they are avoided. In addition, one should stay away from the affected skin as much as possible. In the case of fluid-filled blisters, zinc ointment can offer a solution to allow the liquid to evaporate more quickly. In addition, an anti-inflammatory ointment can be obtained with a doctor's prescription. It is also wise to avoid tap water and basic or perfumed soap. Tar ointment is prescribed in some cases, since good results have been achieved. Nevertheless, there are also reservations about this, such as a small chance of the formation of ulcers. So be well informed before choosing tar ointment.
Because there is dry skin, you should grease it regularly. Ointments are available in many shapes and forms. Be well informed which ointments offer the best results. Also inform how you can protect your hands against substances that cause allergies.
